Teaching Law at ELTC

The introduction of new regulatory regimes for vocational training of lawyers has provided much opportunity for integrating flexibility to our programmes. Our dynamic suite of programmes is carefully designed to be engaging, innovative and most importantly, to equip lawyers in Cyprus with much needed know-how, as opposed to theoretical/academic training. As such, we are looking for outstanding individuals to bring their professional experience to life and join us as a freelance trainer.

What we need from you is the passion and drive to inspire others in your area of expertise. We are looking for highly motivated qualified advocates, legal advisors and or solicitors or barristers with practice experience, who are excited by the prospect of using their professional expertise to develop careers in higher education.

A Freelance Law trainer has the following core areas of responsibility:


  • Teaching on a range of training programmes within your area of expertise.

  • Contributing to curriculum development work.

  • Providing pastoral support and guidance to delegates on relevant programmes and modules as required.

  • Ensuring regulatory compliance with ELTC systems and processes


Through this, you will work with and support the training center in delivering excellence in teaching, materials and pastoral support within a compliant regulatory framework.


Key Responsibilities


Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Teaching on one or more training center programmes either face to face or online

  • Keeping abreast of new developments in relevant areas of law and practice and be a
    subject matter expert

  • Keeping abreast of relevant pedagogic methodologies, including undertaking training
    and development as required

  • Attending practice area and module team meetings or liaising with other tutors as required to ensure uniform delivery of modules in order to ensure successful progression of students between and within programmes and modules

  • Preparing for teaching and teaching in small and/or larger groups as required

  • Striving to obtain the highest level of teaching feedback from students

  • Assisting with the smooth running of assessments as required

  • Contributing to curriculum development work, including innovation, planning and evaluation including those relating to specific modules and courses as required

  • Attending any relevant training in relation to law and practice, course design andinnovation as required

  • Providing appropriate academic and pastoral support and guidance to students throughout their training, and ensure students are directed to appropriate ELTC operational services when necessary

  • Actively encourage student engagement with their programme of study using the
    available resources

  • Ensure regulatory compliance with ELTC systems and processes, including timely and accurate completion of reports and data into all ELTC systems and processes as required.

  • Attend training, as required, to ensure up to date knowledge of ELTC systems and processes to enable teaching on ELTC programmes.

  • Other responsibilities within the remit of the role generally to be agreed from time to time

Candidate Criteria

  1. You will be a qualified advocate in Cyprus or Solicitor/barrister in a UK jurisdiction

  2. Possess a Law Degree and Masters Degree

  3. Practice experience

  4. Have at least 30 hours experience in training, either at higher education level, vocational training and or in house training.

  5. A relevant degree and either higher degree or equivalent professional qualification/experience

  6. Subject/practice area knowledge

  7. Practitioner experience relevant to a practice area

  8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  9. Ability to work autonomously

  10. The ability to effectively plan, organise and prioritise workload

  11. The ability to work well in a team and be collaborative

  12. Able to develop rapport, build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and students

  13. Excellent computer/IT skills

  14. A commitment to vocationally-orientated legal education
